Joe Peraino, PhD

picture_of_jp[1]Joe Peraino was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he majored in Psychology and minored in Mathematics. After a brief visit to Europe, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He taught Statistics and Diagnostic Assessment there.   His doctoral dissertation, presented at an annual convention of the American Psychological Association and later published in Self Magazine, is entitled Personality Similarity in Friend and Dating Relationships.

quoted[1]Dr. Joe began a psychological practice in Houston, Texas in 1984. While running a full-time psychotherapy practice, his research continued resulting in publications in peer-review journals and presentations at scientific conferences.  He has appeared on radio and TV as well as in the written media including The Chicago Tribune, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Fox News.Com, Houston Chronicle, Guideposts for Kids, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, (in Spanish), and others. He has served as President of the Houston Psychological Association and National Speakers Association-Houston Chapter,  adjunct faculties at the University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine, and Board of the Mental Health Association.

Dr. Joe began a private practice in Denver in March 2010.  He focused his practice on forensic psychology in addition to psychotherapy and psychological evaluations. He served for three years on the Board of the Metro Denver Interdisciplinary Council, a mental health and attorney group focusing on the needs of children in divorce. He currently serves on the Governor of Colorado’s Youth Seclusion Working Group, a committee designed to oversee and make recommendations to Department of Youth Corrections  on processes and procedures regarding the use of seclusion of incarcerated youth.

Dr. Joe is happily married to Dr. Barbara for 35 years and counting. Their two children currently reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.
